YOU are hereby invited to the Lehner/Kaspick Golf Outing 2001 I have been thinking about doing this ever since last October when I put a
deposit down on the Manor House at Shenandoah Crossing Resort & Country Club
(www.tri-timeshare.com/CAMPS/SCR_CAMP.HTM).
Now, less than 90 days prior, I finally get around to taking the next MOST
IMPORTANT step by inviting you all - my dearest old friends. First, I should give you some background as to what I hope you will celebrate
with me. I turned the
For the last several years Sam Lehner, who some of you will remember as my Best Man, and I have held a week long Golf Outing at Shenandoah Crossing where I was the General Manager until August of 1999. The numbers varied but I don't think we ever had less than a dozen attend. All but a couple of those attending came from Altoona, Bellwood or Tyrone, Pennsylvania where Sam and I grew up together. This year I'd love to have at least twice that many. We rented the Manor House which comes complete with outdoor pool, hot tub, pool table (recently refinished) and sleeps 12 all in beds with multiple bathrooms. Many times this number is possible of course with cots, air mattresses and sleeping bags. There is a 5 Star Campground located there as well if any of you have the urge to bring a tent, popup or camper of one sort or another.
WARNING: Two of the regulars are Pool Sharks! Fran and my son Jason. Play them at your own risk.
The daily golf is played not only at the resort course on site but also at a few of the other courses within about 30 miles of our home base for the week such as Lake Monticello or one of our favorites Laurel Ridge (www.laurelridgeclub.com/meet.htm). Some of them give us discounts and some of them don't but in any case the cost doesn't exceed $30/day for the golf including carts. All the golf is just for practice for our very own Captains Choice Scramble complete with prizes on one of the days. In addition, we have one big party in which we hire a band and invite other locals to fill in any gaps that may exist so that everyone has somebody that will talk to them J Bring your instruments also as the band we had last year and rebooked for this year not only allows us to play and sing with them they ENCOURAGE it! THEY even know the words so when YOU forget them nobody even notices. Poker and other card games are played almost nightly and the beer flows freely - very freely.
I can't say this is for guys only but so far we haven't had any women attend much other than the party. But any of your ladies are welcome to attend. We'll make whatever arrangements necessary so that EVERYONE has a good time.
Have I mentioned we eat like pigs as well? I have been known to cook a pig or two and Sam and friends have done some mean spaghetti and sausage in the past but I'm not sure what he'll cook up this year yet to feed the troops. Some other nights we descend upon some of the local establishments for anything from informal pizza or subs to one of the best places in Charlottesville for Prime Rib - The Aberdeen Barn. Oh yea, THAT night everybody pays for Sam & I J
If the above is not enough to pique your interest also know that there is horseback riding on site as well as volleyball, tennis courts, miniature golf and other things you would expect at a better than average resort. One we seem to give a lot of support to is their ATM machine J
The cost of the Manor House (room), band, tournament prizes, group meals (2), kegs (?) is split equally based on what each individual participates in or is present for. In other words, our staff accountant, after a brief question and answer period with you and many sleepless nights, will determine the amount you owe. Do not fear however, you all can easily afford what it will be as we do usually have several benevolent sponsors J Suffice it to say that you should expect to spend in total re $60/day and maybe $25 more the day of the Tournament & Party.
When? Well, Penn State is playing UVA on Thursday night the 13th of September and since most of the regulars are huge PSU fans they thought we should start the week off with that. Sam and I agreed. You'll have to secure tickets on your own for the football game though as I'm having trouble getting enough L The Manor House is booked thru the following Friday the 21st when the last ones will leave. But, if you can only make it for a long weekend Friday the 14th thru Sunday that should give you a good taste of the festivities as well as the Golf Tournament will be Saturday and the Party will be Saturday night this year.
Just come whenever you can and leave whenever you have to taking part in whatever you can or desire to. It'll make me HAPPY!
